i was born 1972 on an island in the south-east of Sweden. my musical career began with piano studies but nowadays i work as a composer and play electronic instruments. i work mostly in the area of experimental electronic music and sound art, but have also been involved in more pop-like projects as arranger, composer, producer and musician.

my recent work is oriented towards live-electronics, improvisation and live-performance, but i also work with multichannel acousmatic music, acoustic instruments and sound installations.

i perform live as solo artist (sometimes with the alias .emp) as well as in different constellations.

this was originally a 3-minute 5.1 surround piece commissioned by Rikskonserter and EMS for Fylkingens 70th anniversary festival JIBBOLII 2003. for my diploma concert last year i decided to get to the bottom with the concept. the result is my largest piece so far...

please bear in mind that, although the files are quite big, these are heavily compressed video clips and the sound is of course only stereo. the true 5.1 surround effect and the uncompressed sound and video is _a lot_ better. believe me!

STRÖM is a 45 minute minimalistic piece for five loudspeakers, live-electronics and live-video, based on an open-minded, artistic approach towards electricity. The piece is an attempt to transfer electric currents via sound to the audience. The five speakers in the surround system struggles to take over the sonic stream like electro-magnets. Sine waves and noise rotates with breakneck speeds around the listeners, tries to charge them with static electricity and, as an ultimate goal, even make them levitate.

The video part is in direct connection with the sound and is generated out of five discrete lines - one for each channel in the surround system. The lines are treated in different ways, and as the high voltage builds up in the music they look more and more like electric wires, inflicting each other with violent discharges and eruptions.

a piece written for the swedish group The Pëarls before Swïne experience (flute, violin, cello, piano and computer), with support by Konstnärsnämnden. it was part of the project The Gothenburg Swine and was premiered at Pusterviksteatern in Gothenburg nov 17, 2005.

a piece for steel-stringed guitar and computer. the idea behind the piece is to add a sustain pedal and a virtual, resonating string to the guitar. all the strings are tuned to the same note: A1 (= 55 Hz). commissioned by guitar virtuoso Mårten Falk and premiered at the Stockholm New Music Festival 2005. released on the cd "Ecletric guitar experience" by dB Productions 2007.

this is an updated version of Vivaldi's famous violin concertos, composed, de-composed and re-composed by me and violinist George Kentros.

this project was supported by Konstnärsnämnden and the piece was premiered at The Museum of Modern Art, Stockholm, during EMS 40th anniversary festival december 2004.

This cd was based upon recordings made during an improvised concert together with norwegian video artist hc gilje, at Fylkingen, Stockholm, March 7th 2004. After some editing and re-composing, the result were these pieces.

The music is based on field recordings made inside the defunct iron mine Mimer, in Norberg, Sweden, during the summer of 2001.
Mimer concists of seventeen tracks that cross reference each other in various ways. Each track is based on one of the nine loops that were selected from these original recordings and then treated with different processing techniques. One basic idea was to recreate some of the original sound environment from the days when the mine was running, and also to capture the decay and corrosion of the once very powerful, but now silent and abandoned, machines, containers and silos in the closed mine.

In this concept i work with different acoustic instruments and their sound artefacts, filtered and live-processed through a certain structure in a computer. The Max/MSP-based software also moves the sound according to different paths in time and space and in a multi channel speaker system.

Memo was composed in collaboration with singer/performance artist Anne Pajunen. It is a performance piece about memory and memory dysfunctions for voice, joystick-controlled computer and live-video by Fredrik Olofsson. The piece consists of six parts related to each other in a chiastic form. In the first part the joystick player triggers pre-recorded questions for the voice performer to answer while performing various tasks on a table. The questions are selected randomly and the answers, which are sampled, are supposed to be the first thing that comes into the mind of the performer. In the corresponding sixth part the joystick player triggers the previously sampled answers, and the performer tries to remember the related question.
The other parts in the piece deals with different aspects of memory, such as memorizing by repeating things to an extent that one can remember them even when other memories have faded (like alphabet, prayers and counting).
The special scenery to the piece was made out of large pieces of paper, sticked together like empty post-it notes. These papers also functions as projection screens for the video.

The idea behind „A Big Dog in a Small Package“ is to combine two physical sources with two virtual ones. Starting with no prepared material the group builds up textures of sound and visuals in realtime. Each performance is thereby unique.

The source material are the sounds of the flute and the movements of the dancer. The flutist uses mainly contemporary techniques and also modifies the sound with live-electronics. The dancer is moving between little screens, that are hanging from the ceiling, creating a three-dimensional space around the musicians. The laptop players capture these sounds and gestures and treat them, create audiovisual loops, drones, beats and textures.

„A Big Dog in a Small Package“ creates a visual sound experience – a dance performance with four equal players who act and react with each other.
